April Fool’s Day, which is also called All Fool’s Day, is a great fun little holiday because you are not “required” to go out and get someone a gift or flowers or take them out to dinner

There is no clear first April Fools day but it originated sometime around 1582 in France. Back then the tradition was to celebrate the new year for 8 days starting on March 25th and ending on April 1st. The Gregorian Calendar that we know of today had been introduced and enforced…however, many people didn’t get this news for years because news traveled by foot.
The people that did not accept this new calendar were called “Fools” and made the butt of practical jokes. Over time came the tradition of playing pranks on April 1st.

In Scotland April Fool’s Day is celebrated for two days with the second day being called Taily Day.
