Ever wonder about the origin of the Easter bunny? It was first introduced by German settlers in the 1700’s. If the children were good then the “Oschter Haws” (the white Easter hare) would lay colored eggs for them. The boys would make a nest with their caps and the girls with their bonnets but throughout time the Easter baskets would come into play as the Easter bunny would give you the colored eggs. The Bunny serves as the symbol of new life when the Spring season arrives because they are considered the most fertile of animals. The first edible bunnies were made in the 1800’s in Germany out of sugar and pastry…mmmmm…Around 85% of Americans still follow with this tradition. But not in Australia…they hate rabbits so they wanted to change the Easter bilby, a small marsupial - good luck with that one! Filed under: April
