This is very interesting and is a great idea…I actually don’t know why someone didn’t think of this sooner. It is SJA Mobile…an anonymous tip line where you can text message the FBI with information that you may know but you don’t want them to know that you know…the point of it being an anonymous tip line. This is great because this may actually encourage people to text message information that probably would not have called because they were scared to for one reason or another. This company SJA Mobile just got together with the FBI’s Washington D.C. Field office.

This is a great way to let law enforcement know of any crime related tips that you may have in order to help them better do their job and find what they need to find. This is the first time that text messaging has ever been used for crime tips…any why not…so many people text message. It is just one more way that you will be able to be in touch and contact the federal law enforcement bureaus…and in my opinion the more ways then the better. SJA Mobile today jointly announced with the FBI’s Washington D.C Field Office and Metropolitan Police an initiative which will enable D.C-area citizens to anonymously report crime tips via a novel new medium – SMS. SMS, or “text messaging,” has up until now never been used before as a medium for crime tips.
Citizens in the D.C area can report a crime or homeland security tip by sending a text message with the tip to the number 50411. The 5-digit number to text to is called a “Short Code.” Currently the service is available on all major wireless carriers, along with several Tier 2 carriers.
SJA Mobile is in talks expand the service to several other major cities.
