Today is Poetry Reading Day…if you love to read poetry then today is the day to do so. Personally, I love reading a nice poem. I find some poems to be a little too much to digest though. They are either too weird or you just have to think too much. It doesn’t have to rhyme but I like the romantic poems that you usually find in a hallmark card actually Filed under: Weird Holidays and Observances and April Comments: None |

It is time for those much needed home improvements!! Spring is here and it is time for that spring cleaning and to fix all those things you have been putting off because of the cold weather. Just get them over with now I say because then you are not going to want to do anything because of the warm and hot weather. There are only a few weeks where it is just perfect weather to get things done it seems!! Filed under: Weird Holidays and Observances and April Comments: None |

Today is national sibling day…so if you have a sibling then it may be a great day to call them up or perhaps go out for a cup of coffee or ice cream with. Siblings are just so important to keep in touch with if you are lucky enough to have some. Friends may come and go but hopefully your brother and sister will always be there for you. And they are usually under appreciated! Filed under: Weird Holidays and Observances and April Comments: None |

This month is Autism Awareness month! I work with autistic children a few times a week. If you have never worked with an autistic child then you really do not have any idea on their needs. And some of them have major needs. Personally, I think that autism is something that could be prevented if we could only find out what the cause may be…whether it is mercury, environmental…we need to find a cause before the cures. Ever wonder about the origin of the Easter bunny? It was first introduced by German settlers in the 1700’s. If the children were good then the “Oschter Haws” (the white Easter hare) would lay colored eggs for them. The boys would make a nest with their caps and the girls with their bonnets but throughout time the Easter baskets would come into play as the Easter bunny would give you the colored eggs. The Bunny serves as the symbol of new life when the Spring season arrives because they are considered the most fertile of animals. The first edible bunnies were made in the 1800’s in Germany out of sugar and pastry…mmmmm…Around 85% of Americans still follow with this tradition. But not in Australia…they hate rabbits so they wanted to change the Easter bilby, a small marsupial - good luck with that one! Filed under: April Comments: None |

![]() There is no clear first April Fools day but it originated sometime around 1582 in France. Back then the tradition was to celebrate the new year for 8 days starting on March 25th and ending on April 1st. The Gregorian Calendar that we know of today had been introduced and enforced…however, many people didn’t get this news for years because news traveled by foot. In Scotland April Fool’s Day is celebrated for two days with the second day being called Taily Day. Filed under: April Comments: None |
