Today is Chocolate Mint Day…I just love chocolate mint…whether it is hot chocolate, candy or ice cream. I remember when they came out with that flavor or at least when it was really starting to get popular…it is really good because I like that mint with that chocolate flavor. If you do to then go out and get a cone of mint chocolate chip ice cream! Filed under: February and Weird Holidays and Observances Comments: 4 Comments |

In 1971 the Uniform Holiday’s Act went into effect making 3 day weekend for all federal employers (Memorial Day, Matin Luther King Day, Columbus Day, Labor Day, Presidents Day). Washington’s birthday use to be celebrated on February 22 but because making it the 3rd monday of February every year it would never again fall on his actually birthday therefore they decided to combine their birthdays celebrating both Washington and Lincoln on the same day calling it Presidents Day. The Greek legends say they he is the song of Aphrodite…the god of love and is forever associated with romance and Valentine’s Day. Filed under: February and Valentine's Day Comments: None |

What do you associate with Valentines Day. It use to be the Cupid who is the God of Love, roses, hearts, arrows and love. But now you have to add in the commercial things such as sending flowers, chocolates, stuffed animals and jewelry…all gifts ironically basically for females. Oh and don’t forget those hard, teeth shattering little heart shaped sweetheart candies that have the words on them like “Be Mine”. Filed under: February Comments: None |

Groundhogs day first began in Germany where farmers would rely on the small creatures and animals to determine the weather and the length of winter. They mainly relied on badgers but becaues of the lack of badgers in the US they decided to sustitute it with groundhogs…otherwise it would have been called Badgers Day. Groundhogs day is celebrated on February 2nd each year. The legend says if the ground hog sees his shadow he will be frightened by it and we will have 6 more weeks of winter and if he does not see his shadow we will have an early spring. It is all up to Punxsutawney Phil…and if you ask me he is sometimes more reliable than the trained weather forecasters Filed under: February Comments: None |
