National Biscuit Month
Posted on 09.28.07 by holiday @

So along with it being national chicken month it is also national biscuit month…chicken and biscuits…they go quite nicely together if you ask me :) I don’t really like biscuits because I just find them to be very dry at times. Unless they are home made. My grandfather makes good biscuits but I do not like the ones you get say from Kentucky Fried Chicken. Happy Biscuit Month!

Love Note Day
Posted on 09.28.07 by holiday @

I love this day…it is Love Note Day - how romantic is that. I mean I do not remember when was the last time that I got a romantic love note…I think that I was in elementary school to be quite honest. I think love notes between couples should be passed around more often and what better day to start than today. So write up a little note - put it on a post it and stick it somewhere before you leave to work.

Ancestor Appreciation Day
Posted on 09.27.07 by holiday @

Today is ancestor appreciation day. So it is a good time to look into your past and perhaps ask your grandparents about your heritage. Personally, I always find it to be very interesting to learn more about ones past. Today is a great day to start that quest into your ancestory. You may be surprised to find that you have a rich heritage of great stories and people. And it is always good to know so someday you can pass it down to your grandchildren.

Chimney Safety
Posted on 09.27.07 by holiday @

It is very important if you have a chimney and most homes do have a chilmney even though they may not have a fireplace. You really want to make sure that it is cleaned out yearly because you never know what kind of stuff builds up in there or critters that are living in there blocking it up. You would not want to have a fire started in the chimney or create such an air blockage that you get CO2 in your home because of it. This is chimney safety week so now is the time to get it checked!

Miniature Golf Day
Posted on 09.21.07 by holiday @

I love to play miniature golf and the thin git that it is a great thing to do on a spring, summer or fall day. It is just a lot of fun especially for a family and you do not have to be a pro at golfing. You just have to be able to get the ball through the windmill :) It is going to be a beautiful weekend so take advantage of it and go on out to treat your family to a great game of miniature golf and when take them out for ice cream too :)

Today Is World Alzheimer’s Day
Posted on 09.21.07 by holiday @

Today, September 21, 2007 is World Alzheimer’s Day . This is a very important day to remember and a great cause to contribute your time and your donations too. I have a relative with Alzheimer’s and I know exactly what it can do to a person and their loved ones. It is very devastating to see someone go from full of life, independence and vitality to being completely dependant in constant need of care and not to even remember their own grandchildren within less than a years time.

It is nice to know that you can help out in fighting for a cure in this cause like hosting a Purple Party event. And there are just so many things that you can do. If you are having a bridal shower instead of getting gifts you can ask for donations instead which is what my sister in law is doing. She has a home already and doesn’t really need anything and her grandmother suffered from Alzheimer’s for 3 to 4 years before she died.

You could also host a dinner or even better a desert party! And kids can get involved with this as well…perhaps have a local car wash where all the proceeds go towards this cause and while you are at it have a little bake sale stand there too so people can buy cookies or brownies while their car is being washed. The possibilities are just endless in what you could do to help but just keep in mind a certain code of ethics and keep your hosting parties clean and respectable. And keep in mind also that all donations in September will be matched dollar-for-dollar by The Harrah’s Foundation.

It is not too late to sign up at Purple Party to host your party. And what is great about this is that registering when you register your party at actionalz.org you will be able to make your own page for your party. That way you can send an email reminder to your guests and if they can not attend they can still make donations right online.

It is a great way to start out this upcoming holiday season…knowing that you have helped a great cause! Giving is truly the best gift!!

National Flower Week
Posted on 09.21.07 by holiday @

Well, this week was National Flower Week - it is the 3rd week in September each year. But it is still not too late to go out and get those nice fall flowers to plant in your yards. The kinds that have the orange, yellow and red colors that just make for the perfect fall flowers. Just be sure that if you know there is a frost coming you either bring them in or you can also cover them up with a plastic bag - that way they can survive through a few frosts before the fall comes to an end.

Posted on 09.19.07 by holiday @

Now is the time to update your resume and what better month to do it in than update your resume month! That way if you do finally find that better job you have been wanting and needing you will be ready to just send in your most up to date resume. Otherwise you may lose out because while you are fixing your resume someone else already has sent theirs in and gotten the job that you really wanted. And if you always keep it up to date you will never have to worry about that!

So happy first day for September.
